Radio Holland will be at the Nor-Shipping exhibition in Oslo, from 9 to 12 June, at stand no. B03-20. Radio Holland, one of the world’s leading players in the field of sales, installation and service of maritime navigation- and communication equipment, will this year present its large range of products and services in cooperation with its mother company , Imtech Marine Group and IMG partners Imtech Marine & Offshore and Imtech Marine Germany who are also present at the booth.

IMO MSC approves mandatory ECDIS
During the 85th session of the IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee (MSC), the proposal to make the carriage of ECDIS on SOLAS vessels mandatory as of 2012 was approved. SOLAS regulation V/19 has been amended with the new paragraph 2.10 and 2.11 to make the carriage of Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) mandatory.
For other new building vessels dates up to 2014 are mentioned. For existing vessels a phase-in period is set from 2014 to 2018, depending on type and size, but ships with only two years of life left would be exempt. The requirement would be phased in during 2012 and 2018 and is applicable to the following category of vessels:

Radio Holland opens 62nd office in Oakland, USA
Radio Holland Group announces the official opening of a new service and sales office in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area, which took place on April 7. This will be the 62nd office in the Radio Holland Global Network and the 12th office in the USA. Radio Holland Oakland will provide sales and service of marine electronics in the entire Bay Area on the US West Coast.
The Golden Gate Region receives over 3800 vessel arrivals per year including Container, Bulk, Tanker, Vehicle Carrier, and Passenger vessels. There is a very strong yacht, ferry and fishing presence in the area as well. The new office will allow Radio Holland to better service a vast network of customers by an increased ability to respond rapidly and efficiently to both urgent and routine requests.
Dé Slager, CEO of the Radio Holland Group, says: “Our operations in the United States and Canada are growing and this means our network has also grown. This way we are able to adequately serve our local and international customers entering US ports along all coasts. It is part of our strategy, which is clear: we want to be where our customers are and serve them on the spot. Aoka Mizu – 246 metres of top technology
Flexibility, creativity and internal cooperation. These are the key words for the electrotechnical and mechanical engineering installation on the FPSO Aoka Mizu, which means ‘blue water’ in Japanese. Several Imtech companies worked together to get this complex project done. The Aoka Mizu, an impressive vessel of 246 meters, will become operational at the Ettrick oilfield in the Northsea.
‘This project is an unique example of the total solutions Imtech provides’, says technical project manager Hanco Tigchelaar. ‘Imtech Marine & Offshore’s Hans Niessink landed the order, together with Imtech Vonk. Also involved in this cooperation were Radio Holland Netherlands and Imtech Building Services. This joint effort delivered a good combination of knowledge in the area of oil and gas technology. We provided the full Eengineering, power distribution, electrical propulsion, cabling for control systems, telecom, TVRO entertainment and HVAC.

MSA: the very best service levels
Having the very best service levels possible is a key part of the Radio Holland Group (RHG) philosophy. And the RH Managed Services Agreements (MSA) lie at the very heart of this quality service strategy. Nico van Leeuwen is RHG’s Global Service House manager and he pioneered the MSA.
"Customers do not like to spend a lot of money on maintenance services. We acknowledged there must be a more effective way of carrying out maintenance services that would be cheaper and more efficient for the customer.” Fleet managers were the first to show interest in the MSA because “they know that every extra penny being spent impacts the bottom-line”. Among the owners, former P&O Nedlloyd was one of the first MSA customers, ending up with 60 vessels.

34 million euro orders for technology solutions on board luxury (mega) yachts
Imtech (technical services provider in Europe and on the global marine market) has recently acquired orders from various ship owners and shipyards in Europe, Canada and the Far East for technological solutions on board a number of luxury (mega) yachts. These orders represent a total value of more than 34 million euro.
Recently, Imtech Marine Group (the marine division of Imtech) has acquired orders for technology solutions on board luxury (mega) yachts ranging from 20-25 metres to almost 90 metres long. The orders involve integrated and automated ships’ bridges, energy solutions, propulsion, platform automation & control software, electrical solutions, high-tech multimedia solutions, alarms & monitoring systems and navigation & communication systems.

Radio Holland South Africa and Pertec: combining expertise in maritime electronics
Both Radio Holland and Pertec are well known names in the South African maritime industry. At the beginning of 2008 Pertec Pty Ltd. became part of the global Radio Holland Group organisation and since then Pertec and Radio Holland South Africa have been working together closely. On 23rd February, the offices of RH and Pertec in Cape Town were combined into one address at Paarden Eiland Road 16, while the Durban offices are expected to be combined by mid 2009.
Effective January 1st, 2009 Todd Gaine is the General Manager of the combined operations in South Africa and Tom Redeker is appointed Deputy General Manager. Pertec is a brand-independent maritime services provider, established in 1963 and active in various disciplines, including electrical engineering, navigation, communication, ICT and airtime. Pertec employs more than 80 people operating from Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, St. Helena Bay and Mossel Bay, also having a network of service agents operating from various maritime locations.

New connectivity solution: FleetBroadband 150
Inmarsat has launched their latest addition to the FleetBroadband family with the introduction of the FleetBroadband 150, offering simultaneous voice, SMS and IP data up to 150 kbps.
The above deck equipment is only 20 cm in diameter and weighs between 2 kg and 4 kg, which should allow potential users to install the system in just a few hours by carrying it on deck.
The new service has been established to provide a low-cost solution for leisure and smaller fishing and commercial vessels to take advantage of the IP data and high quality voice communication and SMS provided by FleetBroadband.

SeaTel 4006 Ku-band Antenna
Radio Holland presents the SeaTel 4006RZ Antenna, a 1-meter Ku-band maritime VSAT antenna for SCPC, broadband, or hybrid networks. The 4006RZ utilizes the same radome and antenna as the 4003. This antenna system meets the FCC’s 2-degree spacing requirement, which is a remarkable achievement for a 1-meter ring-focus antenna.
The antenna efficiency is better than 70% across the transmit and receive bands and is ideal for ocean going vessels that require “always-on” broadband satellite communications. The 4006 is suitable for file and image transfer, video conferencing, e-mail, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), and database backup.

RH signs dealeragreement with Seas Services
Radio Holland South Africa (PTY) Ltd joined forces with Congolese based service provider Seas Services in Pointe Noire by means of a dealer agreement.
The arrangement entails a 24/7 service as from May 1st to the Deep Sea and offshore sector carried out by Radio Holland technicians supported by Seas Services back office including a full equipped workshop. This initiative between Seas Services and Radio Holland is highly appreciated by the current client base of both companies resulting from the positive feedback from the market place.
